Calculators for traders and investors. Free, with nothing to sign up for, and nothing you type in is sent anywhere.
Before you use them
We do not give financial advice, and we make no promises about returns. These calculators do arithmetic on the numbers you put in. They don't tell you what to trade, or whether a trade is a good idea. Those decisions, and the risk, are yours.
Fig. 01Calculator
Position size from the risk you choose
Put in your account size, how much of it you're prepared to lose on this trade, and where your entry and stop-loss are. You'll get the position size that keeps the loss to that amount if the stop is hit at your price.
The numbers in the boxes are examples. Put in your own, with prices in the same currency as your account.
Amount at risk
£100
Position size
20 units
That's £5 at risk per unit, and a position worth about £2,000 at the entry price.
A stop doesn't always fill at your price. Gaps and slippage can make the loss bigger. The calculator treats one unit like one share: it gains or loses exactly the price move. For forex and CFDs, check your broker's contract size and value per point before you place anything.

Where to go from here
Two ways we can help, if a calculator isn't enough.
Tools for traders
MetaTrader utilities first, then Python tools for people who trade shares. They do what you set them to do.
Strategy testing, by enquiry
Give us your rules and we'll code them, test them honestly against historical data, and automate them if they hold up.

Common questions
Is the calculator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser and there's nothing to sign up for. Nothing you type in is sent anywhere.
Does it tell me what to trade or how much to risk?
No. You choose the risk and the prices. It only does the arithmetic. How much to risk, and whether to take the trade at all, is your decision.
How does it work out the size?
It takes your risk percentage of the account, then divides that amount by the distance between your entry and your stop. That gives the number of units where hitting the stop loses the amount you chose.
Does it work for forex?
Not directly. The calculator treats one unit like one share, gaining or losing exactly the price move. Forex and CFD brokers size trades in lots and contracts, and what a move is worth depends on the instrument and your account currency. Check those with your broker.
What this is, and what it is not
We do not give financial advice, and we make no promises about returns.
These calculators work out figures from the numbers you enter. They are not a recommendation, not a prediction and not an invitation to trade. BrightDragon Systems Ltd is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Trading carries risk and you can lose money. Any decision to trade is entirely yours.
